Preparing Puppies for a Lifetime of Companionship

At Lover Berners, we believe that a well-trained puppy is a happy puppy, and a happy puppy makes for a happy home. Our commitment extends beyond just providing you with a healthy pet; we also ensure that each puppy receives foundational training before joining your family. Here’s how we prepare our Bernese Mountain Dogs, Mini Bernedoodles, and Tiny Bernedoodles for a seamless transition to their new homes.

Foundational Training

From the moment our puppies begin to interact with the world around them, we engage them in basic training routines that set the stage for future learning:

  1. Socialization: Our puppies are exposed to a variety of people, sounds, and environments to help them become well-adjusted adults. This includes interaction with children, adults, and other animals, fostering a calm and friendly demeanor.
  2. Crate Training: Crate training is introduced gently to ensure that puppies view their crates as safe comfortable spaces. This training aids in housebreaking and provides your puppy with a personal area where they can feel secure.
  3. Behavior Training: 1 week of behavior training with Darrel’s Training is included. (Continue crate training, begin introducing basic commands (ie. sit, lay down, stay, name recognition)

Behavioral Training

We also focus on behavioral training to prevent any unwanted habits and to cultivate good manners:

  1. Leash Training: Puppies are taught to walk calmly on a leash, which is essential for their safety during walks and outings.
  2. Gentle Play: We teach puppies to play gently, discouraging biting and scratching behaviors. This is particularly important for families with young children.
  3. Positive Interaction: Our training encourages positive interactions with humans and other pets, promoting friendly behavior and reducing anxiety or aggression.

Advanced Training Options

For families interested in further training, we offer resources and recommendations for professional trainers who specialize in advanced obedience, agility training, and specific behavior modifications. This extra step ensures that you can continue developing your puppy’s skills and behaviors to suit your lifestyle and needs.

Commitment to Continued Learning

Training a puppy is an ongoing process that extends well beyond our initial preparations. We provide new owners with a training guide that includes tips, techniques, and best practices to continue training at home. Our support doesn’t end when you leave with your new puppy; we are always here to provide advice and answer any training-related questions you might have.

At Lover Berners, we pride ourselves on delivering not just a pet, but a well-rounded, social, and obedient family member. Our training practices are designed to ensure that each puppy not only adapts well to their new home but also thrives alongside their new family.
