Growing up amidst the wide, open fields of Illinois, I, Wilbur, was always surrounded by the comforting presence of animals. Our farm was a lively place, with cows and horses roaming and a family dog by our side since my earliest memories. This deep-seated connection with animals paved the way for my journey into the world of Bernese Mountain Dogs. In 2017, a friend’s Standard Bernese Mountain Dog captured my heart with its gentle nature and teddy bear-like demeanor. It wasn’t long before I welcomed my first Bernese into my life, and soon after, I began raising these magnificent dogs. In 2019, my friend Randall introduced me to the Mini Bernese, a delightful Bernese Cavalier crossbreed. This introduction marked the beginning of my adventure in raising Mini Bernese puppies, blending the best traits of both breeds into companions as loving and gentle as the Illinois plains I call home.

In 2020, I initiated a comprehensive genetic testing program for my Bernese and Cavalier breeding dogs, focusing on screening for genetic diseases and disorders to ensure optimal health for future litters. I consistently maintain their health by adhering to a strict schedule of veterinary visits and vaccinations. Furthermore, I prioritize socialization, ensuring that the parent dogs are well-adjusted and comfortable interacting with people, children, and other animals.

Witnessing the birth of each puppy litter is always an exhilarating experience, as we observe the remarkable care and nurturing provided by the mother. Watching these adorable puppies grow, seeing their eyes gradually open, and observing their increasing curiosity as they explore their surroundings is truly captivating. As they mature, we introduce them to the wonders of the outside world, including the feel of grass and gravel beneath their paws, the joy of playgrounds, and the excitement of toys. We ensure they have ample playtime to expend their abundant energy. Additionally, we conduct comprehensive temperament testing to better understand each puppy’s unique personality, ensuring they are well-prepared for their future homes.
